Zemo forum identifies ‘missing policies’ to accelerate UK transport decarbonisation

(Zemo News Release) Zemo Partnership is today holding a forum for members to identify gaps in the policy framework for decarbonising UK road transport and propose actionable solutions.
Zemo has been commissioned by the European Climate Foundation (ECF) to build on elements of the Delivery Roadmap for Net Zero Transport (which Zemo published last December) and to define a ‘Map of Missing Policies’ needed to accelerate UK road transport’s transition to net zero.
The work builds on and reinforces Zemo’s work to achieve a more urgent, comprehensive and integrated approach to delivering net zero transport in the UK.
The project will identify gaps in the policies of the four nations of the UK, which are mandated to achieve net zero transport by 2050 (2045 in Scotland) and will make proposals to address them in a timely manner.
Neil Stockley, Zemo’s Head of Public Affairs and report author said: “The Delivery Roadmap for Net Zero Transport set out a multi-path approach, to be taken over the life of the current UK Parliament.
“The policy proposals aim to encourage a shift to zero emission vehicles including electrification, action to decarbonise the legacy ICE fleet as well as promote low carbon travel choices.”
The Roadmap advocates the use of comprehensive and integrated policy frameworks, with all relevant government policies – energy, industry, planning, skills, and finance - contributing to achieving the net zero target.
The final ‘Map of Missing Policies’ report, will be published in June and will serve as a foundation for future policy recommendations.
The insights and expertise of Zemo members will inform the outputs of this important project.
Organisations that are not yet members of Zemo but who would like to make a contribution to this process still have time to join and take part in the consultation which will run until May 23rd.
