Volkswagen is planning to market a cheap, ultra-small car for sale in Europe. VW also plans to begin producing hybrid versions of two of its best selling small cars.
The Financial Times reports that the ultra-small four-seater car will be produced as part of VW's Fox city car line. The story came from an interview with Martin Winterkorn, VW's new chief executive, by Germany's Suddeutche Zeitung newspaper.
In a separate development, Porsche is reported to be set to take control of Volkswagen after European legislators called for an end to a law protecting VW from takeover. According to an FT report, Lower Saxony - Volkswagen’s second-largest shareholder after Porsche - will no longer stop the sports carmaker taking both the chairmanship and a third seat on VW’s supervisory board.
