The Government has announced a three-month consultation period for submissions to the Energy Review. The Review - which includes the road transport sector - is scheduled to report to the Prime Minister in the early summer.
Announcing the Review, the Energy Minister Malcolm Wicks said: "I want the widest possible engagement in this vital debate. We need to look at the risks to security of supply, our climate change commitments and, to the long term, to make sure we take the necessary action. There is not a do nothing option."
According to the Government's press release that accompanied the announcement, the key questions posed by the consultation document surround the issues of what the Government can do to ensure energy supply security and also meet carbon dioxide reduction targets. The renewed consideration of nuclear power is a high priority.
The Consultation also invites comments on the long-term potential of energy efficiency measures and measures to help bring forward technologies to replace fossil fuels in the transport sector.
