The Government has announced that funding from the Technology Strategy Board of £23 million is to be made available for sixteen new projects to support cleaner vehicle developments. The Government intends to invest a further £70m through the Low Carbon Vehicles Integrated Delivery Programme from next autumn.
The TSB announcement of funding through the Low Carbon Vehicles Innovation Platform (LCVIP) follows an open competition launched last September. It represents the first investment by the LCVIP since it was established. The LCVIP aims to enable companies to undertake research, development and demonstration projects in the UK.
An autumn 2008 launch of the Low Carbon Vehicles Integrated Delivery Programme was also announced alongside the LCVIP funding decision. This programme will be supported with a further £70 million of government investment. This programme will coordinate low carbon vehicle activity from initial research through to future procurement opportunities, with the aim of accelerating the time it takes to get low carbon vehicle technologies into the market place.
