Over 9,000 ultra low emission vehicles (ULEVs) were registered in the UK in the first quarter of 2015, a 366% increase over the the same period in 2014. Motorists can now choose from a range of around 20 ULEVs, compared to just six in 2011. Responding to the rise in grant uptake, however, the Government has announced future changes to the structure of the Plug-in Grant scheme. (See related story.)

The Transport Minister Andrew Jones welcomed the latest sales figures saying: "I am delighted to see such a huge rise in the number of people buying ultra low emission vehicles. The Go Ultra Low campaign is making low emission vehicles an increasingly popular choice and the Government is investing £500m over the next five years in making them more accessible to families and businesses across the country."

While the UK has recently been one of the fastest growing markets for EVs, sales are also growing rapidly in many other parts of the World.
