Spain has targeted agreement on van CO2 as a priority of its EU presidency. The Euopean Commission also aims to make progress on truck emissions and traffic management measures such as road pricing to help cut greenhouse emissions. The aims are set out in a provisional agenda for EU meetings during Spain's leadership.

According to reports in ENDS, the European Commission is considering introducing CO2 emissions standards for lorries and traffic management measures such as road pricing to help cut transport’s greenhouse gas emissions.

The statement follows European Commission president José Manuel Barroso announcement in September 2009 that the decarbonisation of transport would be his priority in his second term as president. The outgoing environment commissioner Stavros Dimas had proposed a combined climate and transport policy package to address the issue.
