Shell promises ‘no petrol’ fuel stations

Shell is preparing to open the UK's first 'no-petrol' service station in London during 2018. The site will offer electric vehicle charge points, hydrogen cell refuelling and biofuels, instead of the traditional diesel and petrol pumps. Meanwhile, the buildings are said to be powered by renewable energy from solar panels on the forecourt roof.
The Daily Telegraph reports that Shell plans to roll out high-speed electric vehicle charge points over a selection of its 400 service stations in the United Kingdom later this year, letting drivers charge their electric vehicle batteries to 80 percent capacity within 30 minutes. The Anglo-Dutch oil giant intends to implement a pilot scheme over 18 months in order to establish how the forecourt of the future might function.
In future, Shell fuel stations would be set up as “retail destinations”, including coffee and food alongside high-speed Wi-Fi connections. Convenience elements will be enhanced through the introduction of collection points for online shopping deliveries.
