Royal Dutch Shell would like to see compulsory targets for the amount of transport fuels to come from plant sources. A 'renewable transport fuel obligation' might stipulate that up to 10% of transport fuel could come from plants according to Lord Oxburgh, Shell's chairman.
According to a report on a biofuels conference addressed by the Shell chairman, the Financial Times reports that Shell would like to see "very clear targets for biofuels over a very clear timescale...and make them mandatory."
The National Farmers' Union has called for 5.57% of transport fuel to be made up of biofuel by 2010.
