Secretary of State visits low carbon car display at Labour Conference

The Transport Secretary, Ruth Kelly, visited a display of greener vehicles organised by the LowCVP on behalf of the Climate Clinic at the Labour Party Conference in Bournemouth. The vehicle display was also visited by transport minister Jim Fitzpatrick.

The display, which took place outside the Climate Clinic and directly facing the Bournemouth International Conference Centre (BICC) where the Labour Conference was held included vehicles demonstrating a range of lower carbon technologies. Appearing in the display were the Gee Wiz electric car, the Vectrix electric scooter, the Toyota Prius and Honda Civic petrol-electric hybrids, the BMW 1-series lower carbon diesel (with stop-start) and the Vauxhall Vectra E85 biofuel car.

The LowCVP has also been active on the fringes of the three party conferences, holding meetings on the subject 'Biofuels; more good than harm?'. Key spokespeople inclduing Nia Griffith MP, Mark Avery (RSPB), Richard Safford (HGCA) and Juliette Jowitt (The Observer) attended the meetings.

The Climate Clinic is a collaboration between around 30 organisations (NGOs, trade associations and others - including the LowCVP) which has been set up to provide a focus for discussions about climate change at the party conferences.
