The Transport Secretary, Ruth Kelly, has announced that she is to leave the Government at the next cabinet reshuffle which is expected to take place in the next fortnight.
Ms Kelly made her announcement to the Labour Conference in Manchester. She told the delegates that she intends to spend more time with her family which includes four children.
The Prime Minister told the BBC that Ms Kelly had informed him of her plans in May this year and that her decision to leave has nothing to do with any political disagreements or other current political issues.
Ms Kelly was appointed transport secretary in July 2007 after Mr Brown took over as Prime Minister.
