Michelin's tenth anniversary Challenge Bibendum - an event to promote discussion and action towards more sustainable transport - will take place in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil from May 30 to 3 June. This large scale international event will showcase a wide range of activities associated with sustainable mobility including conference and seminar discussions, exhibitions and other activities.

Speakers at this year's event (which was postponed from 2009 due to the economic downturn) include Greg Archer, Managing Director of the LowCVP, Professor Julia King of the Climate Change Committee and Kulveer Ranger, Transport Adviser to the Mayor of London.

Challenge Bibendum was conceived In 1998 when executives at Michelin made the decision to host an event that would showcase technological research into "clean vehicles" and allow them to be assessed in real operating conditions.

The event has been held in eight locations since 2000, with the first Challenge Bibendum taking place in Clermont-Ferrand, France. Since then, Bibendum has been taken to California (twice), Germany, China (twice), Japan and France. The last Bibendum took place in 2007 in Shanghai, China.
