The LowCVP Managing Director, Greg Archer, has announced that he will be leaving the Partnership at the end of January 2012. He will be joining Transport and Environment as Vehicles Programme Manager leading European campaigns on cars and trucks.
A chartered chemist, Greg joined the LowCVP in 2004 from the Carbon Trust having formerly managed WS Atkins sustainability consultancy and also spending time managing the Government's air pollution research programme.
In his resignation letter to LowCVP members Greg Archer said: “The decision is my own based upon the direction I wish my career to take. I retain the full support of the Board and retain a constructive working relationship with them and our key funders in the Department for Transport.
“I have enjoyed working at LowCVP over the past 7 years and believe the organisation continues to be an effective voice for lower carbon vehicles and fuels. However, I have decided that I wish to continue my career by working to more directly influence key European decision-making and using my skills and knowledge to drive progress by actively campaigning for stronger environmental regulations and faster progress.
“I leave a very different organisation and environment for low carbon vehicles and fuels than the one I joined. In 2004, the only “regulations” in vehicle efficiency was the failing voluntary agreement. There was no meaningful supply of biofuels into transport, and no sustainability concerns. Funding for low carbon R&D programmes was a fraction of current levels. The Blair Government had recently published its Powering Future Vehicles Strategy (subsequently quietly dropped) focused on increasing sales of sub-100g/km cars. The only electric vehicles were quadricycles using lead-acid batteries.
“The Partnership has made a world-class contribution in some areas and added value in many. The UK also has a number of emerging clean-tech SMEs with great potential the Partnership has helped to assist. LowCVP is also a very different organisation – a member-led, independent, not for profit company. It is financially sound with diverse revenue streams and a stable and exceptional team and strong engaged membership with which to continue to move forward the agenda. I look forward to watching and working with the LowCVP as a stakeholder as it continues under new management.”
