Opinion poll shows tackling climate change a greater concern than economic growth

According to an ICM opinion poll, British people now believe that tackling climate change should be a higher priority for Government than pursuing economic growth. A large majority also favour the principle of 'green' taxation.
More of the 1000 respondents to the ICM/Guardian poll believe that tackling climate change is the third highest priority for Government, behind improving education and the health service. The issue is a higher priority than 'making the economy grow faster' and equal to 'fighting the terror threat'.
According to an ICM/Guardian opinion poll, a large majority of British people support the concept that the tax system should be used to protect the environment. 63% of respondents said that they approve of a 'green tax', with 34% against.
