Nissan has announced that its much-heralded LEAF electric vehicle will be priced at £28,350 when it becomes available in the UK in February 2011. Nissan says that the cost to buyers will be £23,350 after the Government's £5,000 incentive for the purchase of electric vehicles is taken into account.
Nissan's LEAF is set to be, perhaps, the first 'mass-market' pure electric vehicle to come on to the UK market. The company says that the car will be priced at around the same level as a comparably equipped diesel or hybrid vehicle.
The LEAF is a compact, zero-emission five-passenger family car that comes with features such as air conditioning, satellite navigation, a parking camera, a quick charge socket and innovative smart-phone connectivity.
Nissan says that there are "an array of other incentives which can further defray the costs and increase the benefits of owning the Nissan LEAF". In the UK, EV customers benefit from advantages including zero vehicle excise duty and zero company car tax for five years. This, combined with significant savings in fuel costs of about £513 per year, on average annually in Europe versus a traditional car, makes the LEAF an attractive proposition.
Buyers can now pre-register their interest in reserving a LEAF electric vehicle via the Nissan website prior to reservations opening in July.
