CNG Fuels has announced the launch of its new supply of renewable biomethane fuel as a lower cost, lower carbon alternative to diesel for heavy goods vehicles.

CNG Fuels says that it is sourcing all of its supply of compressed natural gas from biomethane. It says that biomethane is 35%-40% cheaper than diesel and emits 70% less CO2 on a well-to-wheel basis.

The gas is compressed at its refuelling stations in Leyland (Lancashire) and Crewe (Cheshire). According to the supplier the gas has been independently certified as renewable and sustainable, and is approved under the UK Department for Transport’s Renewable Transport Fuel Obligation (RTFO) scheme.

"It offers fleet operators the chance to significantly reduce running costs and emissions, and retailers Waitrose, John Lewis and Argos, as well as haulier, Brit European, have already committed to using the new biomethane fuel for their long-distance articulated lorries," said Philip Fjeld CEO of CNG Fuels.
