The Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership was surprised and very disappointed to learn of the abuse of vehicle testing by Volkswagen, and has reiterated the Partnership’s long-stated position that robust testing of emissions from all vehicles is essential.

Andy Eastlake, Managing Director of the LowCVP, said: “It is critical that vehicle testing is representative, accurate and reliable in order for us all to make the best choices on policy, technology and vehicle purchase.  Any attempts to manipulate tests are clearly unacceptable”.

“The Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership supports moving to an approach to the testing and monitoring of all vehicle emissions that better reflects the experience of motorists in ‘real world’ driving conditions.

“Significant improvements in energy efficiency and tailpipe emissions have been achieved through low carbon vehicles, but it is clearly now necessary that steps are taken to further improve the testing and monitoring regimes to provide reassurance that all test results are accurate and can be realised in every day driving conditions.”

“The LowCVP will be working with its members and with the UK government to track developments and support investigations to help ensure that revisions to the procedures for testing and verification can, as quickly as possible, restore confidence in vehicle emission test data.”

Andy Eastlake added” We are following the developments very carefully and are supporting member questions with our specific expertise on the facts about vehicle testing methods which will be used to help establish LowCVP's responses on this issue.”
