The LowCVP and the Clean Air Alliance have joined forces on an initiative which aims to bring the climate change and air quality communities closer together and to help ensure that UK vehicle and transport fuel policy is most effectively oriented towards tackling these twin threats. The initiative will be launched at a Parliamentary Reception which follows a related seminar on Tuesday March 1.
The news that London has already breached annual pollution limits just one week into 2016, and that the Government has announced plans to introduce Clean Air Zones in five areas by 2020, provides a timely opportunity to discuss the benefits of the lower carbon and air quality communities working together. The Parliamentary event will include the announcement of a joint, high-level communiqué agreed between the lower carbon and air quality community representatives. Confirmed speakers include Isabel Dedring, Deputy Mayor of London for Transport; Edmund King OBE, President, AA; Dr Jon Lamonte, Chief Executive, Transport for Greater Manchester; Dan Byles, Chair, Clean Air Alliance and Andy Eastlake, Managing Director, LowCVP.
The occasion will provide an opportunity to meet guests and exhibitors from the policy-making area, automotive and fuel supply chains, academics and environment groups. The event will help build links and establish stronger channels of communication between the air quality and climate-focused sections of these communities.
A seminar (at One Birdcage Walk on March 1st) will precede a Parliamentary reception and will discuss how coordinated policy action can serve both agendas and mitigate any areas of potential conflict. (More details about the agenda and timings will be provided soon.)
