Over 200 people attended the LowCVP's Annual Conference and the first Low Carbon Champions Awards Dinner, held at Twickenham Stadium on 14-15 July. The event was addressed by Transport minister Norman Baker and included numerous announcements and launches by the LowCVP and partner organisations. Over 40 speakers took part in the event over a day and a half. Their presentations from the event are now available on the LowCVP website.

Making the Coalition Government's first major speech on low carbon transport, Norman Baker said the new administration remains fully committed to cutting carbon emissions from road transport and to meeting the emissions targets in the Climate Change Act. The minister travelled to the Stadium from the nearest railway station alongside other delegates on a hybrid diesel-electric bus. He returned to the station in a battery electric taxi.

The LowCVP's inaugural Low Carbon Champions Awards were presented at a celebratory dinner alongside the WhatCar? Green Awards. Guests at the event enjoyed a pre-drinks reception at Twickenham pitch-side.

In addition to the announcement of the Low Carbon Champions, there were several other LowCVP news announcements and launches at the Conference:

Also announced at the Conference was the RFA's report into the second-year performance of biofuels supplied to the UK market under the Renewable Transport Fuels Obligation.

There has been widespread media coverage of the announcements made at the Conference including reports on the speaker presentations in both the plenary and break-out sessions.

Preliminary delegate feedback has been positive. Based on responses from around 20% of participants, over 80% described the Conference as either 'very good' or 'good' and over 85% selected either of these options for the Awards Dinner.
