The LowCVP's 2011 Conference which took place at the Clifford Chance Auditorium on Canary Wharf on June 9 has received unanimously positive feedback of any of the LowCVP's eight annual conferences. All of the nearly 50 respondents to the post-conference survey described the event as 'very good' or 'good' and the great majority said it was good or very good value for money. Presentations from the event are now available on the LowCVP website.
Overall, 53% of the 47 delegates who responded (a response rate of about 35%) described the LowCVP Conference as 'very good' while 47% said it was 'good'. Around 85% of respondents said the event was 'very good' or 'good' value for money (equally split between these two answers) with the remaining 15% describing it as 'average'.
The theme of this year's Conference was: 'Just over the horizon: mobility to 2020 and beyond', focusing on the next phase of road transport decarbonisation. Speakers at the event included the transport minister Norman Baker (via a live video link from Toyota's Burnaston factory near Derby), Jack Short of the International Transport Forum, Roland Hwang of the USA's Natural Resources Defense Council and David Kennedy of the Committee on Climate Change.
The event, which was sponsored by Michelin, also included presentations on China's approach to road transport decarbonisation, information on the recent and well-publicised Ricardo study for the LowCVP on vehicle life-cycle carbon emissions (see press release) and Element Energy's work on projections of full life costs of owning an electric car.
Other speakers described their visions for the future of low carbon transport. The event concluded with a wide-ranging debate on future fuels including electricity, biofuels, hydrogen/fuel cells and biomethane.
Various ICT technologies were deployed at the conference - including video and audio-conferencing and some material pre-recorded specifically for the event - to avoid the need for speakers to travel and to provide useful information to delegates from a wider and far-flung range of sources. Delegates were also able to provide immediate feedback about the discussions using innovative voting technology designed for conferences.
Delegates rated all sessions well, but the first two ('The changing politics of low carbon transport' and 'Visions for the third decade') most highly.
Over 90% said the delegate management and communications were 'very good' or 'good' (remainder said 'average') . The venue (98% said 'very good' or 'good') and the catering and food (over 90% opted for the best two categories) were also highly rated. There were very few 'poor' ratings given in responses to any aspects of the event.
Nearly 60% said the use of ICT enhanced the conference, while 35% said it enhanced it 'somewhat'. Delegate ratings were also very positive about the use of voting buttons to allow immediate feedback about issues raised at the Conference.
All the Powerpoint presentations from the LowCVP Conference are now available on the website (see associated links). The event was video recorded and material from it will also shortly be available via the LowCVP website.
