The Commercial Vehicle Show, which has just closed at the NEC in Birmingham, attracted 650 exhibitors and up to 30,000 visitors over three days. Some exhibitors chose to focus on the environmental and emissions performance of the vehicles and associated technologies on display.
For example, Vauxhall announced at the show that they are moving into the biofuel market by trialing biodiesel B30 technology in two of their models operated by key fleet clients.
Smith Electric Vehicles launched an electric version of the Ford Transit. Called the Edison, it can do 50mph, has a payload up to 1.5t and a range of up to 150 miles on one battery charge. Smith says it is the only zero emission 3.5t vehicle to offer this performance.
Volvo displayed its hybrid diesel–electric D7 engine on its stand at the CV Show and also reported enquiries about models capable of running on biofuels.
Clean Diesel displayed its unique low cost ‘Purifier’ range of Low Emission Zone solutions for operators wanting to upgrade Euro 2 to meet Euro 3 particulate emissions. Emissions specialist Eminox ran a 'Low Emissions Zone Surgery' on its stand throughout the CV Show.
Meanwhile, vans running on liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) were in evidence on the Citroën, Ford and Vauxhall stands. The continuing London Congestion Charge discount for LPG vans was reported to be encouraging interest in vehicles capable of running on the fuel.
