The King Review of low carbon cars, which was announced in the latest Budget, has issued a call for evidence to invite views from all interested parties on how best to cut road transport emissions over the next 25 years. Professor Julia King, who will be working with Sir Nicholas Stern on the review, will be speaking at the LowCVP Conference in London on June 28.
Announcing the review, Professor King said: "Road transport emissions account for approximately 20% of the UK's CO2 emissions. Reduction of these emissions, in the UK and internationally, is likely to be one of the most significant challenges in meeting our environmental ambitions and tackling climate change. We are therefore keen to obtain a wide range of inputs from relevant parties to support our review of this critical area."
The Review is intended to build on the work of the Energy White Paper and the Government's Low Carbon Transport Innovation Strategy and the TSB's Innovation Platform for Low Carbon Vehicles.
It will consider the existing evidence on technologies to reduce the carbon emissions from vehicles and examine whether, over a 25-year time frame, decarbonisation may be most cost-effectively delivered through incremental evolution of existing technologies, through growing competing niches or via more radical transformational approaches.
Delegates at the LowCVP conference on 28 June will have the opportunity to hear more details of the review from Professor King who will be speaking during the morning session. (See associated link for event details)
The deadline for responses to the King Review consultation is 20 August 2007.
