Investigating the role of gas vehicles

There has been renewed interest in the role that gas vehicles, both LPG and Natural Gas, can play in tackling climate change and air quality concerns.

On16 May, LowCVP, in conjunction with Transport Scotland, held a workshop in Edinburgh to explore these opportunities. The Gas Vehicle Workshop brought together local authority policy officers, commercial fleet operators, vehicle manufacturers and fuel suppliers. The workshop included presentations on policy drivers, developments in accreditation, vehicle testing initiatives, deployment of biogas and biopropane, case studies on the deployment of gas vehicles in taxi, van and truck fleets, and culminated in a discussion about the role these vehicles could play and what was holding them back from deployment.

The details of the event and the presentations are available from the LowCVP website events page Gas Vehicle Workshop, and an overview of LPG and Natural Gas as vehicle fuels can be viewed on the LowCVP website..

Separately, Transport and Travel Research Ltd is currently seeking fleet operators’ views on the potential uptake of CNG vehicles and would like to hear their thoughts via a short survey.

The project is part of a European Commission-funded feasibility study on behalf of CNG Fuels and will help inform the future roll-out of refuelling infrastructure. The survey should take less than 5 minutes to complete and is limited to 13 short questions.

TTR would welcome participants to undertake a short survey as part of the project which can be found
here.
