A new report prepared by the consultants McKinsey for a broad consortium of car makers, fuel suppliers, equipment suppliers government and non-government bodies provides a detailed, fact-based analysis of the future options for power-trains in vehicles used in Europe. The report focuses, in particular, on battery, plug-in hybrid and fuel cell vehicles.
This important report includes evidence based on proprietary data from some of the companies involved in the study. Leading car companies involved include BMW, Toyota, Nissan, Ford, General Motors, Honda, VW, Renault, Kia and Hyundai.
The report presents what it terms 'a balanced scenario for the electrification of passenger cars in the EU by 2050'. The report says that battery electric vehicles (BEVs), plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) and fuel cell vehicles (FCVs) all have potential to significantly reduce CO2 and local emissions.
