Car hire giant Hertz has revealed plans to add electric cars to its rental fleet, announcing a joint commitment with Nissan to make the new Leaf electric vehicle available in 2011 in the United States and Europe.
Hertz will initially roll out the Leaf at a number of rental sites in the two markets. Hertz also plans to eventually offer the Leaf as part of its car sharing service.
The Renault-Nissan Alliance plans to begin mass-marketing electric vehicles globally in 2012. Peugeot has also announced that it is launching an electric vehicle rental service in London later this year. Trials have already taken place in four French cities and the electric range of cars, vans and motorbikes have reportedly proved popular.
