France has announced plans to introduce energy labels for cars and increase the usage of biofuels amongst a range of initiatives designed to combat climate change.
France plans to increase biofuels penetration to 5.75% of total fuels usage by 2010 (a five-fold increase) and in line with a recent EU Directive.
However, plans announced earlier to provide tax incentives for lower carbon cars will now be subject to further rounds of consultation.
Other initiatives in the climate change action plans to introduce labels for a wider variety of energy consuming equipment and to introduce tax credits to incentivise the purchase of more energy efficient equipment.
