Revised legislative proposals for a new EU tyre efficiency and noise label were tabled by the European Commission last week, according to a report from ENDS Europe. This came after the Commission had accepted a first-reading amendment by MEPs changing the legal base of the draft rules from a directive to a regulation.
ENDS reported that several European governments had supported the scheme change last month, and the EC agreed regulation will cut costs and ensure a more uniform application of the rules.
The Commission, however, rejected calls from MEPs to set up a tyre labelling website for consumers, saying this would prove too expesive to monitor.
