The European Commission has announced a consultation on hydrogen vehicle standards which aims to hasten the introduction of vehicles capable of running on hydrogen.
The consultation document includes a first draft of possible future EU standards for type-approval of hydrogen-powered vehicles. It specifies safety and testing standards to be included in a legally binding EU regulation.
The Commission says that hydrogen vehicles offer significant environmental benefits through lower pollution and zero exhaust pipe greenhouse gas emissions. The Commission's press release, which accompanies the consultation link says that manufacturers are close to offering hydrogen vehicles on a commercial basis.
The closing date for comments is 15 September.
