Ed Davey appointed new Energy and Climate Change Secretary of State

Former business minister Ed Davey has been appointed as the new Energy and Climate Change Secretary, following the resignation of fellow Liberal Democrat Chris Huhne.
Mr Davey, the Liberal Democrat MP for Kingston and Surbiton, moves from the Department for Business Innovation and Skills, where he was responsible for the Post Office, Royal Mail and employment relations. Made chief of staff to then Liberal Democrat leader Menzies Campbell in 2006, Davey also served in opposition as a spokesman on the Treasury, education, trade and industry and foreign affairs.
Mr Davey has previously listed the environment as one of his political interests. On taking up his post at DECC, Mr Davey said: "I want us to have a green economy with lots of green jobs to grow our economy. I have now got to take up the challenges, the challenge of climate change, the challenge of energy security. I am particularly conscious of the impact on households across the country of high energy bills.”
Norman Lamb, a whip and a parliamentary aide to Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg, takes Davey's former post.
