EcoVelocity, the low carbon motor show, has teamed up with Grand Designs Live following the purchase of a majority stake in EcoVelocity by Grand Design's' owners Media 10. The combined event will provide the backdrop to the LowCVP Conference to be held at ExCel, London Docklands on May 10.

The EcoVelocity low-carbon motor show was launched at Battersea Power Station last year. The deal with Grand Designs means that visitors will be able to travel freely between the two shows, which both take place at the ExCeL exhibition centre in London’s Docklands on a single ticket. EcoVelocity and Grand Designs will run from May 5-13.

“What started as a joint promotion discussion quickly became a realisation that we could develop something to be much greater than the sum of its individual parts,” said EcoVelocity director Giles Brown.

“This helps resolve the age-old conundrum of how to attract affluent motorists to attend a motor show, as well as the holy grail of car show organisers – attracting female car buyers!”

Grand Designs Live, a spin-off of Kevin McCloud’s popular Grand Designs TV show, had record-breaking visitor attendance in 2011, attracting more than 100,000 people. EcoVelocity had a an audience of 8,500 people in its first year, of whom around 7,000 took part in the show's test drives.

The 2011 show was deemed a success for electric car manufacturers such as Vauxhall, which managed 193 test drives of its extended-range electric Ampera over the inaugural weekend.

EcoVelocity was launched by the former organisers of the British Motor Show under the IGME company masthead last year and debuted at Battersea Park last September. The show maintains a media partnership with the Metro newspaper and What Car magazine as well as the LowCVP.

Media 10 Managing Director Lee Newton said the audience of EcoVelocity and Grand Designs Live are closely matched and that he expects the new acquisition to offer significant long-term growth. The organiser spotted strong cross-promotional opportunities and the chance to capitalise on a growing public focus on low-carbon and more sustainable lifestyles, he said.

“We recognise that homes and cars are two of the most important and high-value purchases in most people’s lives and by bringing the two shows together under one roof, we provide eco-conscious visitors with the best of both worlds and great value for their ticket price,” Newton said.

Tickets for EcoVelocity have just gone on sale. Delegates attending the LowCVP Conference will receive complimentary tickets for the show.
