Dutch EU presidency to push for reintegration of environment into policy

Wed 07 April 2004 View all news

The incoming Dutch EU presidency will attempt to re-integrate environmental considerations into the EU's overall push for growth, competitiveness and sustainability.

The Dutch government intends to use its six-month term to raise the profile of green issues under the banner of "environment as opportunity". It aims to demonstrate that there are synergies between environmental policies and the economy.

An important part of the Dutch programme will be an international conference on sustainable mobility to be held in Amsterdam on October 19-20, 2004. A keynote address at the conference will be given by a LowCVP speaker.
