EU Climate Commissioner Connie Hedegaard, in response to a written European Parliamentary question, has said that further discussions around the adoption of a CO2 label for cars has been delayed to give priority for other legislation on cutting emissions from cars and vans.
Plans to introduce a CO2 label are considered within the proposed European strategy for clean and energy efficient vehicles.
A new timetable has not been fixed by the Commission and it does not yet have a position on the nature of the label, but outlines the options that could be considered between an absolute system and a comparative system. Ms Hedegaard said that a decision would be made on the basis of experience of national labels across the EU.
