In breaking news, the LowCVP has learned that from 2010 Santa Claus will be delivering by electric sleigh.

The sleigh, powered by a lithium-ion battery, has a range of 60 miles and top speed of 90kph. A fast recharge facility will enable Mr Claus to remain operational throughout the Christmas period though some deliveries may be delayed until Spring 2011 owing to the reduced range and performance of the new model.

A spokesperson for Mr Claus commented “The Christmas Delivery Company takes its environmental responsibilities seriously and believes electric sleighs are the future.”

Inside sources tell the LowCVP, however, that the decision has been brought forward due to the continuing high cost of oats and controversy over the indirect effects of bioenergy. It is also understood that Rudolph and friends will command a higher price as tallow feedstock before removal of the biofuels duty incentive in April 2010.

The LowCVP's Managing Director Greg Archer commented: “We wish all our members and newsletter readers a Happy Christmas and successful New Year.”
