China's car manufacturers are rapidly introducing new generation low carbon technologies in a bid for greater future market share according to The Financial Times, reporting on Auto China, the country's largest motor show.
Growing car makers like Chery Automobile and Geely are bringing hybrid, electric and other alternative-energy vehicles to the market, aiming to follow China's successes in mobile phones and digital technology by becoming leaders in greener cars.
Shanghai Automotive, China's largest domestic carmaker, said it would be producing more than 10,000 hybrid cars a year by 2010, including those made by its joint venture partners, General Motors and Volkswagen. Meanwhile, Chery introduced a hybrid that it plans to make available during the Olympic games.
