In a major reshuffle of the Government, the Prime Minister has made changes in several ministries which carry responsibilities in the area of low carbon transport. The Department for Transport has two new ministers while losing one. Matthew Hancock has responsibility both for the automotive industry in the Dept for Business Innovation and Skills and for energy as a minister in the Dept for Energy and Climate Change.

John Hayes becomes Minister of State at DfT with responsibility for roads and infrastructure and is House of Commons spokesman on bus policy. Claire Perry joins him at DfT as Parliamentary Under-Secretary with responsibilities for rail issues and freight transport.

Baroness Kramer retains primary responsibility at DfT for low carbon transport issues while Robert Goodwill also remains at DfT with responsibility for walking and cycling amongst other issues. He is also Commons spokesman on ULEV and environment issues.

In other significant changes for low carbon road transport, Matthew Hancock MP becomes Minister of State for Business and Enterprise (BIS) and, jointly, Minister of State for Energy (DECC), replacing the portfolio previously held by Michael Fallon, who is promoted to Defence Secretary.

In other changes, Amber Rudd joins the DECC team with responsibilities previously held by Greg Barker, who is leaving the Government.

Liz Truss has become Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs replacing Owen Paterson and Priti Patel is now Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury with a portfolio including environmental and transport taxation.
