Carmakers criticised for failure to release data on key environmental performance indicators

A study of vehicle manufacturers' annual reports by the campaign group Germanwatch says that data on key environmental performance indicators, including fuel consumption, is not being made fully available. The report's authors are critical of the manufacturers lack of transparency, indicating that this leads to difficulties for investors in assessing risks and opportunities posed by climate change.

In related news, Friends of the Earth Europe have reported that the European Commission is to investigate compliance with EU fuel consumption and CO2 emission labelling rules for new cars following a complaint of breaches in seven countries.

In the UK the Department for Transport recently revised guidance on billboard advertising following a successful complaint that the UK had inappropriately interpreted the EU directive on guidance.
