The Advanced Propulsion Centre’s UK Capability Study which was discussed at LowCVP’s conference on the 30th June has been published.
‘Low Carbon Automotive Propulsion Technologies: The UK’s capability to capitalise upon future technology-led research-to-manufacture supply chain opportunities’ highlights 21 key low carbon propulsion-related opportunities that the UK’s automotive industry is best positioned to take advantage of. These were identified through a combination of quantitative and qualitative insights from academic and industry stakeholders across 152 different organisations.
The report is both a celebration of the “world-leading research, world renowned aptitude for innovation and world-class manufacturing productivity” and a signposting of the challenges faced by the UK automotive industry in an increasingly diversifying and competitive global market. There is a focus on low carbon propulsion technologies with applications for both on and off-road markets, including passenger cars, buses, coaches and commercial vehicles.
Conducted on behalf of the Automotive Council (AC), the study builds on the foundations laid by the Transport Roadmaps and previously identified strategic propulsion technologies for the UK with an aim to frame the dialogue between Government, Academia and Industry regarding opportunities for low carbon propulsion technologies.
The report represents a snapshot in time of the health of the industry and will be reviewed and updated on a periodic basis to reflect the changing technology landscape and UK industrial capability.
