The Advanced Propulsion Centre (APC) has launched its eighth funding call, APC 8 - Anchoring low carbon technology in the UK - Accelerating sustainable change competition. The £35m matched grant funding competition, run in assocation with Innovate UK. is seeking applications from consortia with low carbon propulsion research and development projects which deliver significant reductions in carbon, as well as other vehicle emissions.

The APC says projects should demonstrate the development of propulsion technologies based around one or more of the following technology areas:

  • Internal combustion engines
  • Lightweight powertrain structures
  • Electric machines and power electronics
  • Energy storage and energy management
  • Alternative propulsion system

The competition guidance indicates that projects must allow for significant vehicle CO2 reductions and improvements in air quality under operational conditions. Both CO2 and air quality improvements should be made with reference to comparable, best-in-class vehicles. Applicants must also clearly show how the project will strengthen UK capability and develop the UK’s supply chain in the field of low carbon vehicles.
