The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has ruled that magazine advertisements for the Lexus RX400h hybrid SUV misled consumers because they implied that the car's emissions were low compared with all other cars, not only other sports utility vehicles.
The Lexus was advertised under the headline "high performance, low emissions, zero guilt". The ASA upheld 10 complaints about the advert, which also said that the model had "category-leading low CO2 emissions" at 192g/km. Lexus said that consumers would fully understand the advert's claims. A spokesman (reported on the BBC website) said: "We weren't trying to be misleading and any changes that are needed, we will certainly make".
