3,000 London black cabs to switch to 30% biofuels blend

Radio Taxis Group Ltd, London's biggest black cab company operating a fleet of 3,000 cabs across the city, has announced that it will run its vehicles on a 30% biodiesel blend. The company has also committed to making its operation 'carbon neutral' by buying offsets.

Radio Taxis claim that the biofuels move will reduce tailpipe CO2 emissions by 7%, particulate emissions by almost 5% and also cut the output of nitrogen oxide and carbon monoxide. It says that the blend also improves fuel efficiency, allowing the vehicles do improve the mileage per gallon by almost 10%.

At the London launch of the pledge today city Mayor Ken Livingstone praised the company for taking voluntary steps to improve its environmental performance.
