Description:
Following a Call for Information and Dialogue regarding future options for zero-emission city bus networks, the Transform Consortium, working with the Transport KTN, the LowCVP and Cenex, is hosting a workshop to explore the next steps in the development of market initiatives for zero emission buses.
The workshop will be for invited stakeholders from the bus supply chain, bus operators and innovation agencies.
Zero emission buses can improve the air quality in European cities. Public transport operators across Europe are seeking to follow the lead of Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB), which recently announced the wish to buy up to 18 electric buses and associated charging infrastructure to operate within the City of Barcelona.
The pace and extent of the introduction of zero emission buses will depend on the development of suitable technology. The Transform consortium has identified a lack of market information as a key missing link. To this end, the Transform Consortium has initiated a Call for Information and Dialogue with the bus supply chain, assisted by the Transport Knowledge Transfer Network, the LowCVP and Cenex. The Consortium has extended the deadline for submissions to the Call for Information and Dialogue from 31st March to 17th April.
Submissions from the bus supply chain are being sought to help address the following key questions;
1. What are the zero emission bus and charging solutions that could be available from 2016 given the right market conditions?
2. What are the relative merits of different zero-emission bus technologies for City transport?
3. What are the barriers that need to be overcome to enable the Europe wide roll out of zero-emission bus networks?
4. Would a forward commitment to purchase cost-effective zero-emission buses that meet the service requirements of the customer and users be helpful?
Interested parties are encouraged to submit responses to: info@transform-europe.eu by 17th April 2014.
The Transform project is seeking to create low carbon progress through coordinated procurement.
The market consultation workshop will contribute to the generation of a Market Report on the future roll out of zero-emission buses in European Cities. This report will be widely disseminated among Cities across Europe that have similar future needs and Innovation Agencies that are interested in supporting research and development to meet the unmet needs of society.
