Description:
Following the publication of the Transport Select Committees’ Report Motoring of The Future, and the Government’s code of practice for testing driverless cars, this event provides a forum to discuss the challenges and opportunities that lay ahead in delivering a coherent transport strategy that ensures the UK is able to embrace the next generation of road vehicles.
Delegates will discuss how the emergence of automated, semi-automated and interconnected cars fits into current regulatory frameworks and how regulation will need to evolve in relation to driver standards, criminal liabilities, and road safety, as well as the need to clarify how ‘live vehicle data’ can be fully utilised by traffic managers, insurers, emergency services, and others to create a ‘smart’ transport network.
Planned sessions will be allocated to discuss the next steps to adapting the UK road network to support the widespread use of electric vehicles and what future infrastructure, such as charging lanes, currently being tested by Highways England, might be required
