This all-day conference in Brussels, organised by T&E, will discuss the decarbonisation of road transport. It is an invitation-only event and the number of places is limited. Bringing together key policy makers from member states, permanent representations, the Commission and the research community, the debate will focus on how European fuel economy standards can help EU countries meet their 2030 climate targets by tackling both trucking and passenger vehicles emissions.

Programme: The morning session (9.30-12.30) focuses on policy options to reduce truck emissions, and especially the role of fuel economy regulation.

In the afternoon (13.30 – 17.30) the focus will shift to passenger vehicles. Participants will discuss what 2025 car CO2 standards should look like and what Europe needs to do to reassert the credibility of its testing and type approval regimes.

Speakers include:

  • Miguel Arias Cañete (TBC): Europe’s Climate and Energy Commissioner
  • Anita van den Ende: acting Director General at the Dutch infrastructure and environment ministry
  • Margo Oge: Former Director of the Office of Transportation and Air Quality at the US Environment Protection Agency. She spearheaded the EPA’s fuel economy standards for cars and trucks
  • Peter Mock: ICCT's Europe Managing Director
  • Laurent Declerck: Head of vehicle performance at PSA
  • Jos Dings: T&E's Executive Director
  • Rachel Muncrief: leads the ICCT’s European heavy duty vehicle programme
  • Niklas Gustafsson: Senior Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer at Volvo Group
  • Achim Jüchter: Senior Expert for Carbon Efficiency at DHL
  • Laurianne Krid: Policy Director at the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile


Moderation: Dave Keating is a freelance journalist covering European politics for Deutsche Welle and vieuws.eu. He will moderate the morning session on trucks.
